How does an optical mouse work ?
· The first optical mouse was developed by Agilent Technologies and introduced to the world in late 1999.The early optical mouse uses a tiny camera to take 1,500 pictures every second and able to work on almost any surface, the mouse has a small red light-emitting diode (LED) that bounces light off that surface onto a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor.
· The pictures are processed and analyzed by digital signal processor (DSP).
· The technology underlying the modern optical computer mouse is known as Digital Image correlation a technology pioneered by the defense industry for tracking military targets.
· Optical mice use image sensors to image naturally occurring texture in materials such as wood, cloth, mouse pads and ormica.
· An optical mouse might use an image sensor having an 18 × 18 pixel array of monochromatic pixels. Its sensor would normally share the same as that used by ASIC for storing and processing the images. ALSO Optical mouse don’t need a special surface, such as a mouse pad.
